Abstract

Ecology artificial prey biological control cotton field method plasticine Uganda
This technical note details a simple method to assess predation using plasticine shaped to resemble caterpillars. We describe an application of the artifical prey technique in a Ugandan cotton field, where predation by arthropods, birds and small mammals was assessed. We discuss a range of aspects of the plasticine caterpillar approach useful for researchers considering this method.
