COVID-19 and medical tourism intentions to Iran - A test of the Risk Perception Attitude Framework (RPAF)
Journal of Islamic Marketing, Vol.14(6), pp.1506-1530
2023
Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the global tourism industry. Through the context of Iran, this research was undertaken to examine whether medical tourism can be a frontrunner in terms of post-pandemic recovery for the industry. Employing a mixed-method analysis of 17 interviews and 210 questionnaires involving medical tourists to Iran, the research revealed that tourists perceived the risks posed by COVID-19 as a temporal one, and attitudes towards post pandemic visitation intentions remained strong. Building on the Risk Perception Attitude Framework, the research contributes to theoretical and managerial implications for post pandemic reorientations.
