Abstract
Freshly sawn samples of golden bamboo (Phyllostachys aurea) culms were treated with one of 4 bacteria or the fungus Trichoderma harzianum, which were all thought to be antagonistic to mould and stain fungi. The samples were then exposed to hyphae or spores of 8 mould or stain fungi. Although there were varying results, on the whole treatment with bioprotectants reduced the discolouring effect of moulds and stain fungi.
