Abstract
A national DETYA/DEST funded project into the literacy and numeracy development of target group students in the middle years of schooling was conducted between June 2001 - June 2002. The project was managed by the University of Queensland as a consortium of key staff from the School of Education in partnership with staff from University of Tasmania, Edith Cowan University, and two international expert partners from the USA (Donna Alvermann, Thomas Bean). This is a brief overview of the findings of the project, particularly in relation to numeracy.
