Abstract

The overthrow of Ferdinand Marcos raised hopes for a better future in the Philippines, but it now seems to many that the people's revolution has not ushered in a new society. This article examines President Aquino's strategy for development alongside others, identified as the self-reliance, leftist and post-industrial models. It is concluded, however, that an authoritarian and élitist future for the Philippines is becoming increasingly likely. © 1988.
