A headache or a pain in the neck?
New Zealand Archaeological Newsletter, Vol.18(2)
1975
Abstract
During road works for a road bridge at Opito beach, a prehistoric midden was uncovered which contained the cranium and cervical vertebrae of an adolescent female. The occipital area of the cranium had been struck and fractured and there was evidence of cutting through the cervical vertebrae. Burn marks from the midden suggested the individual may have been cooked post mortem.
