Abstract
This research focused on rain-fed dependent, community agriculture projects in Tanzania with respect to the needs of assessing current and potential climate risks and impacts associated with climate variability and change. The aim was to assist small-scale farmers in Tanzania to identify local climate risks and impacts and to combine this information with historical climate data to assess the future risks. The success of farmers to understand climatic change at early stages of farming and to select appropriate adaptation options could help them to reach the full potential of using seasonal rainfall to increase crop productivity at the local level. However, the limited ability and knowledge to identify and understand the impacts of climate variability and change on rain-fed dependent, community agriculture is a major challenge. This challenge could prevent farmers from reaching the full potential of utilising a scarce resource (seasonal rainfall) for crop production and thus ultimately increase poverty levels. The research assessed the current climate risks and potential/future risks of climate variability and change on the community agriculture projects. This was achieved by examining the literature, conducting case studies, and utilising statistical climate data and tools.
