Abstract
This entry argues that the term “sustainable development,” the bedrock upon which the sustainable development goals are premised, is incompatible with the notion of future sustainability and thus the goals themselves as a consequence are in part compromised. If this premise (which is the main thrust of this contribution) is accepted, then the goal of “a quality education for all” (SDG4) requires a fundamental reorientation and reexamination of the theory and practice of learning at all levels.
