Abstract
This Special Issue of Cities & Health is published in conjunction with Community of Practice Urban Health of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP).Each of our Special Issues has a ‘Research for city practice’ article which unlocks all the academic findings through an accessible summary of the research. These not only succinctly describe the research and its importance but also inform you about what action to take. The focus of this Special Issue is broad; with case studies, commentary and research illuminating work from a gamut of regenerative practices for coexistence and well-being across the globe. This Research for City Practice article provides policy and practice briefings, one from each of the six research papers submitted. Each of these give the author(s) an opportunity to communicate beyond the research fraternity. Using this series of short briefings, they describe the urban problem they tackled and its significance for policy and practice, aimed at those stakeholders who are in a position to make a change to support urban health and health equity. The Community of Practice Urban Health partnered with Cities & Health for a previous ISOCARP Special Issue launched at the 60th World Planning Congress in Sienna. It was titled ‘Planning for neighborhoods that support the well-being of all communities’ with its associated ‘Research for city practice ’comprising another 18 policy and practice briefings. Each year, the International Society for Urban Health brings together leading researchers, practitioners, policy-thinkers, and community voices to share research outputs, best practice case studies, and new policy ideas. We invite you to use this article to explore the findings together with ISOCARP and our other journal partners. An invitation to develop the necessary and ongoing worldwide dialogues to advance health through urban governance, planning and design. Dive in, share what works in your context, and help advance worldwide conversations – helping to turn cities in the climate frontline into the forefront of equitable solutions. Our repository of all previous briefings, known as 'City Know-how,’ can be found at www.cityknow-how.com where they can be searched for via our interactive world map, thematically, or using key terms
