Public health research priorities of ANZJPH: Findings of our priority setting process

Abstract
In our recent editorial, we described our broad approach to publishing high-quality public health research and facilitating research translation.1 We have since undertaken a prioritisation process to help us appraise the types of research that may have the greatest public health impacts. The priority setting process involved a number of steps. First, the readership of Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health (ANZJPH) was invited to participate in a brief online survey. The survey was advertised in the Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) newsletter, “The Pump”, and on the PHAA blog, “In Touch”, and via published editorial.1 Contributors responded to open-ended questions describing health issues, conditions, or causes of disease that they believed the journal should prioritise, as well as any priority population groups or communities where research would be particularly valuable. The types of research questions perceived by contributors that would have the greatest impact for public health research and/or practice were also captured. We were pleased to receive 107 responses, the majority of whom were from public health researchers (n=53, 49.5%) and those with 5–15 years of experience in the field (n=41, 38.3%).
