Abstract
This second edition of this respected book (previously published under the title The Australian Welfare State: key documents and themes) integrates significant and contemporary source documents within a text that explores the ongoing evolution of the post-welfare state. The text is organised around five key themes, which the authors believe underpin the development of the Australian welfare state since Federation. The welfare state is discussed with reference to the wage earner, race, gender and entitlement. An introduction and a set of questions, which have been developed for class discussion or private study, accompany each section.
