Abstract

injury prevention groin injury hamstring injury sports injury prevention systems primary prevention secondary prevention tertiary prevention
Groin and hamstring injuries collectively represent a substantial burden in high-level team sports. While the literature has addressed multiple individual risk factors associated with these conditions, rates of groin and hamstring injury in team sports have remained relatively unchanged. Two possible reasons for this are a lack of: (1) reliable, valid and clinically feasible objective tests and injury prevention strategies and (2) knowledge of where these are best implemented within a contemporary injury prevention framework that considers injury as a continuum. This thesis has explored both of these concerns by investigating accessible options for the prevention of groin and hamstring strain injury and outlining their appropriate use within an injury prevention framework.
