Abstract
A wide range of phytopathogenic fungi exist causing various plant diseases, which can lead to devastating economic, environmental, and social impacts on a global scale. One such fungi is Pyrrhoderma noxium, causing brown root rot disease in over 200 plant species in the tropical and subtropical regions of the globe. The sub-tropical environmental conditions appear to have facilitated the establishment of this disease in Southeast Queensland, Australia. Several infection sites were identified in the suburbs of the capital city Brisbane, where large heritage trees in public spaces have been lost as the disease spread. This necessitated the need to identify suitable disease control measures to manage the spread of the disease. Accordingly, this PhD study undertook investigations aimed at understanding and controlling this pathogen under laboratory and field conditions.
