Abstract

Cybersecurity and privacy Human-centred computing Information systems Identity compromise and misuse response system Identity information Identity theft Sociotechnical systems theory Systems thinking
Identity compromise and misuse perpetrated by criminals in the global online environment, impacts on individuals, businesses, economies and government agencies. It can damage and/or undermine the operations of e-commerce, online banking, government online customer systems, community organisations and the wide range of other digital information and service providers. Contrary to public perception, identity compromise and misuse is not victimless. The impacts that victims experience extend beyond financial and can be devastating; damaging not only their finances but also their reputations, health and well-being. This research project was driven by the need to better understand the sociotechnical factors that influence the aftermath experiences of victims and the need to develop recommendations for interventions with the potential to optimise the response system performance for all system actors, including that of victims.
