Abstract
Background:
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a heterogeneous neurodevelopmental condition characterised by the core features of impaired social communication skills and restricted behaviour or interests. In children, sleep difficulties are profound comorbidities that adversely impact behavioural and biological functions as well as the quality of life of the child and primary caregivers. There is increasing interest in the efficacy and safety of alpha rhythm-guided repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (α-rTMS) as a therapeutic option within the population.
Aims:
The overarching research aim was to evaluate the efficacy and report on the safety of α-rTMS (intervention) for ASD, sleep difficulties, and quality of life (outcomes) in children and their primary caregivers (population) using objective and subjective measures.
