The aim of this thesis was to examine the activity profiles and physiological responses of players and referees during tag football competition to assist with the improvement of athlete development practices. This thesis 'by publication' is formed by four research studies that have been accepted for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The first research study (Chapter 2) examines the activity profiles and physiological responses of tag football referees during national tournament competition. The following three research studies (Chapters 3, 4 and 5) determine player activity profiles during state- and national-level competition and examine the influence of playing position, representative selection, physical capacity and fatigue on the activity profile.
