Abstract

supply chain management university-industry collaboration education learning
Successful implementation of supply chain management (SCM) within organisations requires new workforce skills developed in faster learning cycle times and through learning experiences that emphasise multidisciplinarity and knowledge integration. However, as SCM is an emerging field, practice has progressed well in advance of systematic knowledge development. In order to address this knowledge deficit a number of industries and business enterprises are exploring ways by which to accelerate SCM learning - that is, accelerate the creation and capture of new SCM knowledge. One way has been to enter into university-industry collaborative arrangements. While such arrangements have been applied in other areas of knowledge, little is known about how effective they are at increasing the speed with which knowledge is created and then learned in SCM, even less so in an Australian context. This study sought to address the present knowledge gap in this area. The aim of the research was to identify and examine enablers for accelerating SCM learning within the context of an Australian university-industry collaboration which was established specifically to more quickly develop effective SCM professionals. To achieve this aim, an exploratory qualitative case study was used. The study was conducted within an interpretivist-constructivist research paradigm and employed grounded theory methods.
