Abstract
Many popular sports such as Rugby League, Wrestling, Kayaking, and Rock Climbing are intermittent in nature and require powerful efforts from both the upper and lower body musculature to be performed either consecutively or in unison with one another. While short duration, high intensity exercise for the lower body has been examined previously, the response of the upper body to repeated short duration, high intensity exercise remains unknown. Furthermore, the effect of maximal efforts performed by one region on subsequent maximal efforts performed by another region is yet to be examined. Such information is extremely pertinent to those individuals either working with, or involved in, intermittent sports that require significant contributions from both the upper and lower body, and may facilitate the identification of more suitable and efficient training methodologies and ultimately improve sporting performance.
