Abstract

Digital and electronic media art
ISEA2024 began with a question: what does it mean to host the 29th International Symposium on Electronic Art on country in Meanjin, on the lands of the Turrbal and Jagera peoples, who are the First Nations custodians of the lands and waters of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia? This question shaped our theme, Everywhen, and guided our approach to both the academic and creative programs. The proceedings of ISEA2024 are presented in two volumes. Volume 1 gathers the academic papers that formed the scholarly backbone of the symposium. This second volume documents the creative works, exhibitions, performances and workshops. ISEA2024 was one of the most significant gatherings of artists, researchers and professionals in experimental and electronic media arts in Australia in over a decade. More than 650 delegates took part, with around 450 attending in person and over 220 participating online. The academic program featured over 300 talks, panels and presentations. The creative program brought together works by more than 200 artists, distributed across galleries, independent arts spaces, public sites and virtual platforms, alongside 25 workshops offering hands-on engagement with techniques, technologies and methodologies.
