Abstract
The 'Time for a Yarn' research team has a vision to advance Cultural Safety education across the School of Health (SoH) for all staff and students to become strong advocates for bringing Indigenous Peoples Voices into our health curriculum, and to promote the importance of place and space for Indigenous Peoples' perspectives, knowledges and cultural values across all SoH programs and courses.
Aligning with the UniSC Indigenous Education Strategy 2023-2028, we investigated the preparedness of teaching staff to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait knowledges and perspectives into the curricula. Approximately two-thirds of SoH teaching staff have experience, but few feel confident to proceed with the embedding process. Qualitative findings identified cultural training, access to a range of resources and support, a strategic approach, and collaboration and networking opportunities as being key to supporting SoH teaching staff with the embedding process. This research provides recommendations for future work in this space.
