Abstract
Currently at USC there is no uniform approach to training supervisors (preceptors) of students across the health disciplines. Although there is a body of literature on strategies to enhance learning in a clinical setting, there is less focus on the capacity of individuals to provide quality supervision. The aim of this project is to enhance quality supervision for students undertaking WIL through the adaptation, delivery and evaluation of an online training module for individuals involved in supervision of USC students. While this training module is targeted at the disciplines of Nutrition and Dietetics, Sport and Exercise Science and Occupational Therapy, the objective of the project is to establish a sustainable USC branded training module that can be adapted and embedded into other disciplines at USC. Thus, this workshop will aim to target those individuals involved in work integrated learning across the university with the aim of highlighting how this project may assist them with ensuring quality supervision of students. The first half of the workshop will provide an overview of this project to date including a demonstration of the development of the training module. The second half of the workshop will involve participants providing feedback on how this may apply or be adapted to suit other disciplines. This project has been funded by the Deputy Vice Chancellor as part of a commissioned grant.
