Abstract

Specialist Studies in Education PhD supervision University of the Sunshine Coast
Traditional approaches to PhD supervision in Australia have followed the mentor/apprentice model, whereby one supervisor usually dominates the PhD experience of a candidate. USC is trialling a new approach to supervision through the formation of a dissertation team to: (i) draw on multiple expertise within a nurturing environment; and (ii) to help build the capacity for supervision among early career supervisors. USC's Teaching and Research Services has initiated an action research component to the supervision process in order to capture reflections and lessons to better improve USC's capacity for team supervision at a distance.
