Abstract
It is widely recognized that tourism has brought both benefits and drawbacks to the host community. Residents' perceptions of the impact of tourism and their attitudes towards tourism-related issues are affected by diverse factors. However, there remains a significant lack of tourism research on residents' perceptions of historic cities in developed countries. This study focuses on how a sample of residents from the historic city of York, in northern England, perceives the impact of tourism issues in the city. York has been called the leading city destination outside of London. It could be a good example of the tourist historic city with strong local, national and international identities, and rich in heritage attractions and tourist facilities.
