Re-understanding the Developing Brain
Mental Health and Well-being of Young People, 2012 (Multiple locations, 30-Mar-2012–20-Jul-2012)
2012
Abstract
Since the early 1990’s we have learned a great deal about the human brain. Some of the newest insights regarding neurological development suggest that during adolescence the brain is busy restructuring itself as it matures along a pathway of greater efficiency and adult capabilities. This maturational process has implications with regards to all measures of neurological function but most significantly those related to executive functioning and emotions. This presentation looks to uncover some of this information by focusing on contemporary research into how the brain develops, and the implications this may have for those who engage with young people in various contexts.
