Abstract

Business and Management participatory action learning action research (PALAR) project
This presentation will highlight the evolution of a three cycle participatory action learning action research (PALAR) project model similar to that proposed by Professor Ortrun Zuber-Skerritt (2011), that being, practical improvements in the educational workplace. The presentation will demonstrate how through three action learning cycles developed around Professor Reginald Revan's Action Learning philosophy, learning equals programmed knowledge plus questioning, a blended learning community has been built in order to connect domestic and international students at. Blended learning strategies helped to connect learning communities, enhancing relationships between domestic and visiting international students. The presentation/workshop will reveal how, building upon established literature and academic sequence of events, including the concerns of academic staff, simulated work integrated learning experiences have enhanced the study abroad experience. This third phase has built upon previous cycles in which relationship marketing techniques were combined with participative action learning action research (PALAR) and social media, to further align this ongoing participative action learning action research (PALAR) project to the established findings of Trice (2004) who initiated that by constructing both formal and informal relationship opportunities academics can improved understanding of student needs and help international students to more rapidly fit their scholarly surroundings. Student participatory action learning action research (PALAR) teams were facilitated through the utilisation of a 'tool kit' of both traditional communication tools including relationship marketing tools, and social media to support work integrated learning to 'connect learners and create communities'.
