Abstract
This presentation demonstrates a teaching project in which the Immerse Lab and custom-designed software were been used to visualise a range of student solutions to design problems in a space that facilitates effective comparisons between images. This assisted students in understanding that there can be multiple solutions to a design brief. As problem solving is relevant to many disciplines, our project involving the comparative display of solutions in the Immerse space, could be relevant in a range of disciplines. Our software also transformed student designs, sparking discussion and imaginative solutions regarding applications for these new designs in professional contexts. This assisted students in understanding connections between course tasks and their real-world application. Survey results indicated that for the majority of students, the activity generated new ideas and encouraged them to think differently about their designs. In a broader sense we were also interested in examining how curricula might be designed to effectively utilise the Immerse space and the visual, spatial, comparative and transformative learning that it facilitates.
