Abstract
UniSC has a high rate of staff with fellowship of Advance HE - 75.8% of academic staff hold a fellowship, which greatly exceeds the 20.4% Australasian institution sector average. UniSC provides accredited CPD schemes of support and guidance towards achieving fellowship to academic and professional staff, which includes our Scholarly Practice Program (Fellow and Senior Fellow), and Foundations of University Teaching (Associate Fellow). Research at UniSC indicates fellowship is considered to be enabling through peer supports and potential career progression (Siostrom et al., 2026). This project will commence with institutional mapping of those with fellowship, at different categories in schools, disciplines and professional areas across the university. It will then survey UniSC ongoing and casual academic and professional staff, to ascertain what difference that the fellowship makes in their professional practice. In the landscape of the Interim Australian Tertiary Education Commission (ATEC) report on Enhancing Professional Practice in Australian Higher Education Teaching (Johnson, 2026), this project aims to provide important insights into this aspect of professional practice. This project will also consider how our educators can align their experience and capabilities with UniSCs Curriculum Design Framework.
