Establishing effective multi-agency Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy and Childhood investigation: preparing for successful partnerships - Workshop
ISA-ISPID Digital Conference, 2021 (Online, 11-Nov-2021 - 13-Nov-2021)
2021
Abstract
Many countries have implemented multi-agency SUDIC investigation, and others are introducing this new method of working. Effective multi-agency investigation should lead to a fuller understanding of causes and risks for death, completion of legal processes, and bereavement support and information for families. Effective child death investigation improves learning from deaths and informs public health strategies to prevent future deaths.
It can be challenging to establish multi-agency working in areas with little experience of this, and there can be many different barriers to effective working. In this workshop we will identify current barriers and difficulties, and discuss solutions and actions that participants can then implement to improve their local situation. There will be short presentations on parents and professionals experiences of SUDIC investigations, and current practices in SUDIC investigation in several different countries (Australia, New Zealand, Norway, United Kingdom). The workshop aims to be as interactive as possible, with group discussion of shared experiences and solutions.
