Abstract
This presentation explores a school-university engagement project that developed a collaborative approach to collecting and sharing the viewpoints and perspectives of students, teachers and administrators about the implementation of school-wide pedagogy. This research approach is a valuable tool for organisations to learn and reflect on the impact of system wide change. The research focused on using a Most Significant Change (MSC) approach to collect and analyse stories of practice shared by students, teachers and administrators from primary and secondary schools. MSC is a qualitative research design that uses a narrative storytelling approach. The research question explored within this study was how teachers, students and administrators describe the impact, on teaching and learning, of the implementation of a school wide pedagogy? The results recognized that participants, at all levels, identified changes in teaching and learning since the implementation of the schoolwide pedagogical framework. The MSC research design provided scope for all participants, teachers and administrators, to actively engage as collaborative researchers making a contribution to their own professional learning. In addition, the stories developed as part of this collaborative research have also been used as a tool for professional development for other teachers, administrators and preserve e teachers within the context of the school and university. The stories have provided a context and process for sharing practice, exploring classroom pedagogy and critical reflection in practice. The mutually beneficial knowledge acquired through this engagement research activity illustrates the important role of community and university engagement and the opportunity to connect university teaching to the real world of work.
