Abstract

Specialist Studies in Education Cultural Studies
Education and development of the ancient civilizations were lost and buried in the annals of time. Historical evidence illustrates man's insatiable thirst for domination drove the conflicts of the globe without respect for the way of life practiced by the other. The destruction of the Bamiyan Buddha statues in Afghanistan and the Twin Towers of New York are the modern testimonies to such disregard by man towards man. History also reveals that not only military power but other coercive power methods have been devised to wield as control mechanisms by powerful nations to dictate to the not so influential. The changing nature of power and the futility of armed conflict are well documented in the philosophies particularly in the Asian Region. The knowledge extracted from these philosophies today is only a drop in the ocean. The twenty first century provides an opportunity to tap into that vast resource of ancient wisdom to propel the educational needs of the global village. Asia has to lead the way.
