Rural Training - Youth Support Conference : Authentic Counselling Practices: Challenging Current Thinking, Creating New Knowledge, 2010 (Hervey Bay, Australia, 12-Apr-2010–14-Apr-2010)

Abstract
The goal of Gestalt therapy is to raise the client's awareness, through the use of experiential techniques, in the here-and–now. The use of creative strategies in Gestalt Therapy is an activity of contact that can bring dormant insights into awareness and offers a way in which this awareness can be shared with others. This workshop will focus on the use of creative Gestalt therapy strategies and psychodrama: ¤ to gain an understanding of roles and relationships; ¤ to explore parts of the self; and ¤ to make choices. When counselling adolescents, psychodrama is an excellent way of keeping the energy flowing. When using psychodrama, many young people become actively involved in a very dynamic process. They can play out parts of their lives in a highly charged and physical way, which for many young people is easier than sitting down and talking through issues.
