Abstract
In 2016 the School of Health and Sports Sciences started to re-imagine how to teach Human Anatomy at USC. During the first iteration in Semester 2, 2016 we discovered that to truly re-imagine how to teach anatomy we needed to leverage key partnerships to achieve this vision. The support and trust of the Head of School ensured that a Course Coordinator was appointed ahead of time to redevelop the curriculum and resources for Semester 2. The Course Coordinator's goal was to build an exciting learning experience, mindful of cognitive load, by integrating clear and consistent learning materials with logical learning and teaching approaches and well-defined learning outcomes. The C-SALT team were involved as partners throughout the entire journey and contributed richly to the redesign of the curriculum, in building a visually appealing and logical Blackboard site and through the extensive redevelopment of the lab manual. All course materials were produced using high quality photographs of models used in lab classes and lecture videos were recorded professionally at USC, using a consistent approach and using the same models and teaching artefacts. Another synergistic partnership emerged as we learned how an existing Commissioned Learning and Teaching project "SLICE" could contribute to our reimagined approach to teaching anatomy at USC, by developing a multi-user CAVE experience by customising existing webbased resources for the CAVE. The SLICE project used and adapted BioDigital Human to build a fun and interactive quiz, which became a bonus learning opportunity for students in 2017. In addition, the School purchased full site license to BioDigital Human to enhance inclass learning activities and facilitate self-directed learning by students. In this live demonstration, being held at the CAVE, we will take you through our experience of re-imagining and redeveloping Anatomy at USC. We will show you the new teaching resources and immerse you in the teaching activities in the CAVE. We will share with you our cost estimates of Anatomy reimagined and the cost estimates of NOT re-imagining Anatomy. We will integrate the feedback from current students and discuss potential ideas for future. Partners involved in this project include: • Professor John Lowe • Dr Anita Hamilton • Mr Lee Daffin • Dr Ruth Greenaway • Ms Angela Hansen • Ms Anita Jones • Ms Sondra Smit • Dr Mark Utting • Dr Jacqui Blake • Mr Mark Barry
