Abstract
Hosting Olympic Games is a huge cost which may be a big burden on the host city, and even the country. So, how to fully use Olympic facilities and realize their maximum value post-games have been a major issue and worthy of being explored. Almost six years have passed since the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. However, there have been few studies looking at the usage of Olympic venues in this period. This study examines data from its two most famous venues, the National Stadium and the National Aquatics Center, to analyze their operating conditions, evaluated from two aspects: economic and social benefits. The results show the National Stadium realizes cash flow balance and the National Aquatics Center has reached break even with a small surplus. Socially, besides a series of international sports and cultural events, a lot of civic and public benefit activities are also held which win reputation. Scientific planning, huge influence, market-oriented operation, a lot of public benefit activities and so on contribute to the above results. However, the two venues are also facing problems and difficulties which restrict their further development, including huge operating and maintenance costs, shortage of top events, controversy of naming rights, simplification of role playing, poor service quality and unsuccessful development of intangible assets.
