Abstract
Journalism is constantly evolving across digital and offline platforms and to reflect these industry changes the delivery of CMN237 Online Journalism has also shifted. Thecourse has transformed from one using elements of virtual and physical learning spaces to a strategic, innovative, multi-platform offering. The aim of this blended learning approach is to enhance students' learning experiences at university and prepare them for professional newsrooms so they can flourish from their first day. The key focus in the change of delivery has been offering three weeks in a "flipped classroom" of online pre-class activities on Blackboard. This change of delivery was needed to help students keep pace with industry developments, as well as allowing them to study at their own pace. The flipped classroom involves students watching pre-recorded video clips delivered by the lecturer. The short clips are presented in conjunction with interactive exercises such as surveys or polls, and reflection activities. The issues raised in these online lectures are expanded on with more practical tasks during traditional classroom tutorials
