Optimal meropenem exposure may be achieved with standard doses in patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
Asia-Pacific Chapter of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organisation (APELSO) Conference, 1st (Beijing, China, 11-Oct-2013–13-Oct-2013)
2013
Abstract
Background / Purpose: This presentation is the result of an international multi-centre study (Trial number ACTRN12612000559819) run by chief investigator Professor Kiran Shekar. This study intends to generate vital pharamcokinetic data for 18 important antibiotic, sedative and analgesic drugs used during extracorporeal life support (ECLS). This will result in generation of evidence-based dosing guidelines for drug dosing during ECLS and may result in improved patient outcomes. Main conclusion: Optimal meropenem concentrations may be achieved with standard dosing despite the profound PK alterations that can occur during ECLS.
