Abstract
The Jeeralang provenance of E. globulus is an important component of breeding and deployment programs due to its superior growth and wood density. This provenance is morphologically intermediate between ssp. bicostata, ssp. globulus and ssp. pseudoglobulus which has caused considerable inconsistency in its taxonomic treatment. To clarify its genetic affinities, 154 trees from the Jeeralang provenance and core populations of the three subspecies were sampled. Fingerprinting with eight microsatellite loci showed that core populations of Tasmanian and Victorian ssp. globulus, as well as ssp. bicostata and ssp. pseudoglobulus appear to be relatively distinct. The Jeeralang provenance was indistinguishable from Victorian ssp. globulus, which is geographically proximal.
