Abstract
In Australia wood plays a major role in the building industry. Stressed-skin panels (SSP) can create new opportunities for use of timber in multi-storey residential, industrial, commercial and public buildings. To achieve this, SSP elements need to be designed with reliability. This research aims to obtain a better understanding of SSP floor systems. The investigation focuses on load/stress distribution in SSP, and on the composite characteristics of SSP. This paper gives an overview of the investigations undertaken to date whereby the laboratory testing has just been completed. Analysis of key data of the tests and preliminary analysis has shown that the serviceability, ultimate resistance, load/stress distributions and composite characteristics have matched the theoretical assumptions. This paper focuses on the ultimate responses of SSP specimens.
