Abstract
An update of recent and current commercial and research activity related to scallop aquaculture in Australia is presented. Of the seven Australian states and territories with a coastline, four - namely Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania and Western Australia - appear to have some scallop aquaculture activity. However, there are no definitive government statistics on actual scallop production or value from aquaculture. The success, or otherwise, of the major scallop culture initiatives of recent years are presented, with contact details for additional information where available. Overall, some promising initiatives continue which should enable the future development of scallop aquaculture as when economic, market and regulatory conditions allow.
