Abstract

Tourism sustainability micro/small business bed and breakfast hosted accommodation tourism water/energy
This paper examines sustainability practices and uncovers some of the trends, changes and complexities faced by owner/managers in implementing a sustainability framework to their bed and breakfast and hosted accommodation businesses. Interpretation of data highlighted both alignment to past studies and future implication with regard to the pillars of sustainability and corporate citizenship. A preliminary comparison of coastal and hinterland businesses has established alignment to the sustainability pillars of environment, economic and social trends. Alignment has been established through water and energy conservation; economic sustainability through contributions to the local economy, and socially through the need for future sustainability education.
