Abstract

Social Work child protection culture
In a globalised world characterised by increasingly quick transactions between many different actors across the globe, the ability to work across cultures has become essential to all areas of human endeavour. Professionals in the field of human services are no exception. This paper argues that cultural dynamics play a key role in all aspects of working with children, starting from the assessment of risk of harm, to the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate interventions. Further the paper explores the proposition that that the building of cultural competence, both at the individual and the institutional level, is crucial to ongoing work in the field.
