Abstract

Education Systems regional engagement universities
During the past five years, regional engagement has become a strategic activity of most Australian universities. Apart from the research and teaching functions, universities are increasingly required to source non-government funds and at the same time be internationally competitive. As a result, universities are attempting to engage local businesses, industry bodies and government agencies to achieve this end. In the process, many other desirable outcomes are being achieved. The vignettes offered in this paper reflect on the process of leveraging support for regional projects, reaching out to regional stakeholders, developing regional partnerships, and linking the region to 'research and teaching' in order to make a contribution to regional development.
