Abstract

Information Systems social marketing food residence Australia
Obesity among young adults is one of the public health issues dominating social marketing. This study investigated if attitudes towards healthy eating varied among those young adults who lived in the family home (dependent) and those who lived on their own (independent). Using a quantitative, self-administered questionnaire, our sample of 310 Australians between the ages of 18 to 24 found that young adults who lived independently displayed a significantly more positive attitude towards healthy eating than those that remained in the family home. Furthermore, we found a significant, positive relationship between attitude toward healthy eating and the number of recommended serves consumed in both independent and dependent living arrangements.
