Abstract

Curriculum and Pedagogy
Many students come to pre-service mathematics teacher education programs with considerable anxiety and fear of mathematics. The challenge is to provide students with the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding for teaching, and to positively impact upon their belief systems. In this study 429 pre-service students rated change of beliefs about mathematics through a self-assessment questionnaire. Results indicated a strong positive change, and together with interview data, highlighted key contributing aspects of the program and thus provided a measure of program quality assurance.
