Abstract
At the Centre for Timber Durability and Design Life, Australia a cooperative project is underway with Forest and Wood Products Australia, supported by a consortium of timber producers, chemical suppliers and timber users to identify alternative pathways for treated timber and EWP's. Under this initiative, we are focusing on establishing the current and forecasting future volumes of treated timber, as well as assessing the conditions of materials in terms of residual chemicals and potential for reuse and repurposing. This approach aligns with broader efforts globally to promote sustainability and circular economy principles in the use of natural resources. The specific application of these efforts in the Australian Viticulture industry, aiming to reduce footprint and mange end-of-life posts is noteworthy. The emphasis on posts predominately treated with CCA in vineyards highlights a common practice in industry. This study focusses on characterising residual levels of CCA components in treated radiata pine post removed from service after 18 to 26 years in South Australia adds valuable data to the understand of the reusability.
