Abstract

emotion social networking affective computing human-computer interaction Mobile
This research hypothesises that existing social networking systems do not adequately support emotion communication between members of a social group. To investigate this, a system (called Emotishare) was built to facilitate this type of communication and track the emotion sharing behaviours of participants when using the system. Emotishare is a web and mobile platform that allows its users to track, share and respond to the emotional states of their friends. The system has been trialled with both large and small groups to explore the possibility for support of emotion communication using this type of service. It was found that small groups were most effective for supporting the sharing of emotional state and that mobile devices were best suited to support the sharing of personal information such as emotional state.
