Abstract
There is a need to engage a broader evaluation strategy for information system (IS) design. This paper describes an approach to address this need particularly for decision support systems (DSS) design. The conceptual approach is based on a mental model within the design science research paradigm that enables us to evaluate DSS development at various design checkpoints from the problem identification stage to the outcomes and communication stages. This paper also describes a qualitative research plan to investigate the applicability of the conceptual approach under a socio- technical design context. The applicability of the framework is shown through a comparison with a known DSS evaluation method.
