Abstract
This paper presents emerging methodologies from the Creative Ecologies Research Cluster, positioned within Queensland’s three UNESCO biosphere reserves. Through a framework of reciprocity, the cluster explores intersections between creative practice, emerging technologies, and community wellbeing through place-based innovation. The cluster develops new approaches to creative practice and new technology that prioritise Indigenous protocols, connection to place, and planetary health and wellbeing. This paper outlines our approach to reciprocity that disrupts traditional paradigms by emphasising care, collaboration and ecological thinking over individual gain. Through short case studies spanning field trips, community engagement, and emerging immersive installations, we demonstrate how locally-focused, globally-connected creative practice research underpinned by reciprocity can inspire place-based connection, improve community wellbeing, and contribute to ecological regeneration.
