Abstract

Teacher Education and Professional Development of Educators pre-service teacher education
The paper will tell the story of QUT's journey. It will outline the Faculty of Education's vision for pre-service teacher education, describe how this vision is manifest in a set of course standards, principles and structures, and it will conclude with the challenges and issues which confront the Faculty as it moves into the ongoing implementation and review of an outcomes-focussed curriculum for pre-service teacher education. Each part of the paper will provide a record of the ongoing interactions among the three key players about the journey in reconceptualising the curriculum, in reculturing the Faculty's thinking, and in actually implementing (and reviewing/ reconstructing) a new suite of programs. There will be discussion of : a) the issues raised; participants will have opportunities to critique and contest the QUT story within the broader contexts of professional standards and higher education quality assurance b) further addressing existing and emerging issues associated with an outcomes-focussed curriculum in the contexts mentioned above.
