Abstract
Various renewable energy resources (RERs) require common platform for integration, which evolves the concept of microgrid. The microgrid is considered as an open energy system in which power flow is bidirectional in nature; hence, control is more complex. The effective operation, i.e., stability, frequency and power-sharing, of microgrid is primarily governed by inverter control strategies. However, the main concern of microgrid is in operation and in the control of power electronics units. Added to this, the control techniques can be split into two general classifications: communication infrastructure-based control techniques and without communication links. This chapter examines and categorizes different inverter-based control strategies and summarizes and compares various control methods to distinguish their advantages.
