Abstract
The Australian Cooperative Research Centre for Coastal Zone, Estuary and Waterway Management (Coastal CRC) has a mission to bridge the gaps between scientists, decision-makers and the community, and one of the five research themes of the Coastal CRC is dedicated to Citizen Science and Education. The Coastal CRC has identified over 80 tools that can be used to foster greater citizen participation in coastal management. A major research output of the Citizen Science and Education theme is to provide on-line access to information on each of the tools. The information consists of a description of the tool, advantages, disadvantages, applicable group size, resources required, links to additional information, and a simple 'how to' guide for using the tool. The on-line toolbox is searchable and also includes an annotated bibliography and sections that relate to citizen science theory (e.g., volunteerism, partnerships, communication, and community-based research). The toolbox will be developed progressively with case studies of the use of various tools, and can be accessed through the Coastal CRC internet site.
